This 2 week course on Wednesday 17 and Wednesday 24 May delivered by Lancashire Adult Learning will introduce learners to the development of Lancashire as the ‘workshop of the world’. We will look at the beginnings of the Industrial Revolution in Lancashire, its natural resources, the development of the coal and textiles industries that made Lancashire the centre of the Industrial Revolution not just in England but in the world. We will also discover some of the famous men and women of Lancashire who made an impact in industry and social reform and the impact of the industrial revolution on the lives of the people of Lancashire. Places such as Angel Meadow in Manchester, considered to be the worst slum in Europe.
At the end of the course, learners will be able to:
- Identify the key developments of the industrial revolution.
- Understand why Lancashire became so important for development,
- Understand the strategic reason for Lancashire’s industry.
- Identify some of Lancashire’s most important men and women.
- Understand the impact of the new industries on the people of Lancashire.
